Why we stopped using ChatGPT for slides (and what we built instead)

ChatGPT is great for text, but it’s a nightmare for slides. It doesn't know your company template and it’s a security risk for internal data. Here is why we stopped using it and built Contrl—the local-first AI for 100% template integrity.

The Problem: ChatGPT and Gamma fail at strict corporate templates and data security.

The Solution: Contrl is built for high-stakes environments, syncing your local data into your specific PPTX templates without ever sending sensitive info to the cloud.

We’ve all been there: You have a big presentation for a government agency tomorrow. You try to save time by asking ChatGPT or Gemini to "make a deck."

The result? A wall of text that you have to manually copy, paste, and reformat into your template for three hours. It’s not "AI-generated"—it’s just a high-tech script for manual labor.

I even tried the fancy web tools like Gamma and Canva. They look great, but they aren't real .pptx files. You can’t edit them properly, and in our world of strict GovCon templates, "almost right" is actually "completely wrong."

We decided to solve this differently.

We’re experimenting with a new concept called On-Device AI Strategy. Instead of sending your data to a cloud (risky for contracting!), this AI lives on your device.

We call it Contrl, and it does three things the big guys don't:

  • Syncs Internal Data: Contrl scans your local Excel sheets and Word docs to ensure your slides are grounded in real-time internal data.
  • Native Template Integration: Unlike web-based AI tools, Contrl respects your corporate master slides, fonts, and colors—maintaining 100% template integrity.
  • Enterprise-Grade Security: As an on-premise AI, Contrl ensures no sensitive data leaves your device, making it safe for Government Contracting (GovCon) and Big Tech."

We built this for our own team at Proact, but we want to see if it solves your PowerPoint headaches, too.

Want to try it before we go public? I’m looking for 10 "Power Users" to give us brutal feedback in exchange for free early access.

Q: Why is ChatGPT bad for professional PowerPoint decks?

ChatGPT creates text, not formatted slides. It doesn't understand your company’s master templates and requires manual "janitor work" to copy-paste.

Q: Is there an AI for PowerPoint that is safe for sensitive data?

Yes, Contrl is designed as a local-first AI that processes data on your device, ensuring that sensitive internal data never reaches the cloud.
